Walk-in urgent care · Florissant, MO

Urgent Care in Florissant, MO

Express Urgent Care is the walk-in urgent care for Florissant, about five miles south by Lambert Airport. It is roughly a fifteen-minute drive from Old Town. It is open Monday to Friday until 7 p.m. and needs no appointment. Digital X-ray and a laboratory are in the same building.

Florissant is the largest municipality in St. Louis County. It is also one of the oldest settlements in the region. And it has remarkably little in the way of same-day medical care. Think of Old Town, the neighborhoods off Washington Street, and the subdivisions spreading north toward Lindbergh. For most of them, the realistic options on a Tuesday evening are a primary care office that is closed, or an emergency department that will take four hours and bill accordingly. We sit about five miles south, on Woodson Road beside Lambert Airport. We are open until seven every weekday. Picture a Florissant family whose child came off a bike wrong, or whose sore throat has gone from irritating to alarming. For that family, the difference is the entire point.

What does urgent care treat?

Everything that needs care today but is not an emergency. Colds and influenza, sore throat and strep, and ear and sinus infections are all here. So are bronchitis and persistent cough, fever, and stomach upset and dehydration. We also see urinary symptoms, rashes and allergic reactions, and asthma flare-ups. For injuries, we handle sprains and strains, suspected fractures, and dislocations. Cuts needing closure, minor burns and abrasions come to us too. So do animal bites and insect stings, sports injuries and head injuries. You can also come in for physicals, vaccinations, confidential STI testing or occupational medicine, and we have an on-site infusion suite.

Diagnostics in the same building

Here is why most urgent care visits turn into two appointments: the clinic cannot run the test. We can. Digital X-ray is in the building and read during your visit. So a suspected fracture is confirmed or ruled out before you go, and splinting or bracing is done the same day. Our laboratory tests for strep, influenza, COVID-19 and mononucleosis. It also runs urinalysis, pregnancy testing and blood panels. You get most results during the visit and the rest within a few days. Ultrasound and CT are on hand for the cases that need them.

Getting here from Florissant

From most of Florissant, the quickest route is south on North Lindbergh Boulevard to Interstate 70. Then go west two exits to Lambert. From Old Town, Graham Road down to I-270 and across is usually faster in the evening. Either way, it is a twelve- to fifteen-minute drive outside rush hour. There is free surface parking at the door. No garage, no shuttle, and no walk across a hospital campus with a child on your hip. If you are coming from the north end near Paddock or Coldwater Creek, allow a few extra minutes. The Lindbergh lights are the slow part, not the highway.

When should you go to the ER instead of urgent care?

Know the difference: we are an urgent care center, not an emergency department. It matters. Call 911 or go to an emergency room for chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe or uncontrolled bleeding, a serious head injury with loss of consciousness or worsening symptoms, severe abdominal pain, a major burn, a severe allergic reaction, pregnancy complications, or any injury involving exposed bone. For everything below that line, urgent care is faster. It costs a fraction of the emergency department charge for the same complaint. Our post on urgent care versus the emergency room explains where the line is.

What happens at a walk-in urgent care visit?

There is no appointment. You walk in and register at the front desk. Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of the medicines you take. If you are bringing a child, a parent or guardian needs to be there to sign. Triage follows the order you arrive, adjusted for how sick people are. So a chest complaint moves ahead of a form that needs signing. You see a clinician, who takes your history, examines you, and orders whatever testing the problem calls for. That testing generally happens while you wait, because the laboratory and the X-ray suite are in the building. It does not turn into a second appointment. You go home with a diagnosis where one can be made and a treatment plan. Any prescription is sent to your pharmacy. You also get written instructions and a clear statement of what should bring you back. Our post on what to expect from an urgent care visit covers it in more detail.

Does Express Urgent Care take insurance?

Most major insurance plans are accepted, and self-pay patients are seen too. Bring whatever coverage you have. The front desk tells you where you stand before anything is done. For the cost in writing beforehand, you can request a Good Faith Estimate. We do not aim to replace your regular doctor. If you have one, we send a summary of the visit. So your own physician knows what happened and what was prescribed. Where you do not, we will say honestly whether this is something that needs ongoing care. Then we help you find it. Sometimes the problem turns out to sit outside urgent care. If so, we tell you and point you to the right place, rather than treating around the edges. Language help is available at no charge. The clinic is wheelchair accessible throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an urgent care in Florissant open in the evening?

Options thin out considerably after five o’clock. We are open Monday to Friday until 7 p.m. We are roughly a fifteen-minute drive from Old Town Florissant, and no appointment is needed. Most visits are standard walk-in urgent care. That means illness, injury, and the things that cannot wait for a primary care appointment next week.

Can I get an X-ray without going to a hospital?

Yes. We have digital X-ray on site and read it during your visit. So you find out whether it is broken before you leave. Hospital imaging usually means a separate department, a separate wait, and a separate bill.

Where can my child get a sports physical near Florissant?

We do walk-in sports, school and camp physicals. They meet Missouri State High School Activities Association requirements. The form is completed and signed before you leave. Bring whatever paperwork the coach or school handed you.

Can you just walk into any urgent care?

You can walk into ours. Express Urgent Care needs no appointment and no referral. You arrive and register at the front desk. You are triaged in the order you arrive, adjusted for how sick people are. Bring a photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of the medicines you take. If the patient is a child, a parent or guardian needs to come along to sign.

Is urgent care cheaper than the ER?

For the same complaint, yes. Urgent care costs a fraction of what an emergency department charges. There is also no walk across a hospital campus. We accept most major insurance plans and also see self-pay patients. The front desk tells you where you stand before anything is done. If you want the cost in writing first, request a Good Faith Estimate.
