Urgent Care in Overland, MO

Express Urgent Care is the walk-in urgent care closest to Overland, about a six minute drive up the same street that runs through the city. It is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It sees adults and children and needs no appointment.

Overland is the closest thing we have to a home neighborhood. Woodson Road runs the length of it and then straight to our front door. So for most of Overland, the trip here is one road and no turns. It is a compact, settled city of about four square miles. It is largely Ritenour School District families. And it has the same problem most inner-ring suburbs have: plenty of houses, very little same-day medical care. Being three miles up the same street is the whole advantage. It is a real one when a fever spikes at six in the evening.

What conditions does urgent care treat?

We see everything that needs attention today but is not an emergency. Sick visits cover colds and influenza, sore throat and strep, and ear and sinus infections. They also cover bronchitis and persistent cough, fever, and stomach upset and dehydration. Add urinary symptoms, rashes and allergic reactions, and asthma flare-ups. Injury visits cover sprains and strains, suspected fractures, dislocations and cuts needing closure. They also cover minor burns, abrasions, animal bites and insect stings, sports injuries and head injuries. We also handle physicals, vaccinations, confidential STI testing and occupational medicine, and we run an on-site infusion suite.

Is there X-ray and lab work on site?

Here is why most urgent care visits turn into two appointments: the clinic cannot run the test. We can. Digital X-ray is on site and read during the visit, so a suspected fracture is confirmed or ruled out before you leave. You get splinting or bracing the same day. In our laboratory, we run strep, influenza, COVID-19, mononucleosis, urinalysis, pregnancy testing and blood panels. Most results are back inside the visit. The others follow within a few days. Ultrasound and CT are available for cases that need them.

How do I get to urgent care from Overland?

Follow Woodson Road north. That is truly the entire route. From the Ritenour High School end it is about six minutes, and from the Midland Boulevard side a little less. No highway, no interchange, no toll of any kind on your patience. Free parking sits right outside the entrance. If you would rather not drive at all, our virtual care visits can handle a number of common complaints. They can also arrange testing if it turns out you do need to come in.

Is it an emergency, or is urgent care enough?

We run an urgent care center, not an emergency department. That distinction matters. Call 911 or go to an emergency room for chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe or uncontrolled bleeding, a serious head injury with loss of consciousness or worsening symptoms, severe abdominal pain, a major burn, a severe allergic reaction, pregnancy complications, or any injury involving exposed bone. For all the rest, urgent care is faster. It costs a fraction of what an emergency department charges for the same complaint. Our post on urgent care versus the emergency room marks where the line sits.

What a walk-in visit actually looks like

You come in without an appointment and register at the front desk. You will need a photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of your medicines. For a patient who is a child, a parent or guardian must be present to sign. We triage in the order people arrive, adjusted for how sick they are. So a chest complaint jumps ahead of a form that needs signing. Your clinician takes a history, does an exam, and orders whatever testing the problem calls for. Because the laboratory and the X-ray suite are right here in the building, testing generally happens while you wait. It does not become a second appointment. You walk out with a diagnosis where one can be made and a treatment plan. Any prescription is sent to your pharmacy. You also get written instructions and a clear statement of what should bring you back. Our post on what to expect from an urgent care visit covers it in more detail.

Do you take insurance, and can I pay without it?

Most major insurance plans are accepted here. We also see self-pay patients. Bring whatever coverage you have, and the front desk will tell you where you stand before anything is done. If you would like the cost in writing ahead of time, you can request a Good Faith Estimate. We are not trying to replace your regular doctor. When you have one, we send a summary of the visit so your own physician knows what happened and what was prescribed. Where you do not have one, we tell you honestly whether the problem needs ongoing care. Then we help you find it. If it turns out to sit outside urgent care, we say that plainly. We point you to the right place rather than treating around the edges of it. Language assistance is available at no charge, and the clinic is wheelchair accessible throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a walk-in clinic on Woodson Road?

Yes. We are on Woodson Road at Suite 290, straight up the same street that runs through Overland. It is about a six minute drive. No appointment needed for walk-in urgent care, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Can you see my child, or is this adults only?

We see children. Fevers, ear infections, sore throats, rashes, minor injuries and school physicals are all routine here. Take a look at illnesses we treat for the common ones, and bring a parent or guardian along to sign.

What should I bring to a walk-in visit?

A photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of the medicines you take. Our post on what to expect from an urgent care visit covers the rest. That includes roughly how long you will be here.

Which urgent care near Overland accepts walk-ins?

We do. Express Urgent Care needs no appointment and no referral. Come in Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and register at the front desk. You are triaged in the order you arrive, adjusted for how sick people are. If it helps, call us on your way and we will start the registration.

What should you not go to urgent care for?

Anything that could be life-threatening. Call 911 or go to an emergency room for chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe or uncontrolled bleeding, a serious head injury with loss of consciousness, severe abdominal pain, a major burn, a severe allergic reaction, pregnancy complications or an injury with exposed bone. Fevers, sprains, cuts and infections short of that are exactly what urgent care is for.
