Express Urgent Care is a walk-in urgent care about twelve minutes from Hazelwood, just past the Lambert terminal. It is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Digital X-ray and a laboratory are on site. On-the-job injuries and DOT physicals are routine walk-in visits.
Hazelwood has always been a working city. The Ford plant defined it for half a century. The warehouses and distribution centers that replaced it still set the rhythm of the place. That means early starts, physical work, and injuries that happen on a Wednesday morning rather than at a convenient hour. The city spreads along Howdershell Road and North Lindbergh. A lot of people here cannot simply take an afternoon off to see a doctor. We open at seven and we take walk-ins. We handle both the injury and the employer paperwork in one visit. We do not send you somewhere else for the forms.
What does urgent care treat for Hazelwood patients?
Anything that needs attention today but is not an emergency. Illnesses include colds and influenza, sore throat and strep, and ear and sinus infections. They include bronchitis and persistent cough, fever, and stomach upset and dehydration. They also include urinary symptoms, rashes and allergic reactions, and asthma flare-ups. Injuries include sprains and strains, suspected fractures, dislocations, and cuts needing closure. They also include minor burns, abrasions, animal bites and insect stings, sports injuries and head injuries. On top of that, we handle physicals, vaccinations, confidential STI testing, occupational medicine and an on-site infusion suite.
Can I get an X-ray and lab work at the same visit?
Here is why most urgent care visits turn into two appointments: the clinic cannot run the test. We can. Digital X-ray is on site. We read it during your visit, so a suspected fracture is confirmed or ruled out before you leave. Splinting or bracing follows the same day. Our laboratory handles strep, influenza, COVID-19, mononucleosis and urinalysis. It also handles pregnancy testing and blood panels. Most results are ready inside the visit, with the rest within a few days. Ultrasound and CT are available for the cases that call for them.
How far is urgent care from Hazelwood?
From Hazelwood, head south on North Lindbergh Boulevard toward the airport. Follow the signs for Lambert. Woodson Road is just past the terminal access. From the Howdershell side, cutting across to Interstate 270 and then down to I-70 is usually quicker in the morning. Either route runs about twelve minutes. There is free parking right outside the entrance. That matters more than it sounds when you are driving yourself in with a hand wrapped in a shop towel.
When should you go to the ER instead of urgent care?
We are urgent care, not an emergency department, and that line matters. Call 911 or go to an emergency room for chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe or uncontrolled bleeding, a serious head injury with loss of consciousness or worsening symptoms, severe abdominal pain, a major burn, a severe allergic reaction, pregnancy complications, or any injury involving exposed bone. For everything else short of that, urgent care is quicker. It also costs a fraction of what an emergency department bills for the same complaint. Our post on urgent care versus the emergency room lays out where the line sits.
Can you just walk into urgent care without an appointment?
You walk in with no appointment and register at the front desk. Have a photo ID with you, plus your insurance card if you have one and a list of the medicines you take. A child needs a parent or guardian there to sign. You are triaged in arrival order, adjusted for how sick people are. So a chest complaint goes ahead of a form that needs signing. The clinician takes your history and examines you, then orders whatever tests the problem calls for. Because the laboratory and the X-ray suite are in the building, testing generally happens while you wait. It does not become a second appointment. You leave with a diagnosis where one can be made. You also leave with a treatment plan, any prescription sent to your pharmacy, and written instructions. And you get a clear statement of what should bring you back. Our post on what to expect from an urgent care visit covers it in more detail.
Insurance, records and follow-up
We accept most major insurance plans and we see self-pay patients as well. Just bring whatever coverage you have. The front desk will tell you where you stand before anything is done. Would you like the cost in writing beforehand? Then you can request a Good Faith Estimate. Replacing your regular doctor is not our aim. Where you have one, we send a summary of the visit, so your own physician knows what happened and what was prescribed. Where you do not, you get an honest answer on whether this needs ongoing care, and help finding it. If the problem turns out to sit outside urgent care, we say so. Instead of treating around the edges of it, we point you to the right place. Language assistance comes at no charge, and the clinic is wheelchair accessible throughout.
Frequently asked questions
Do you treat on-the-job injuries from Hazelwood employers?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Strains, lacerations, burns, crush injuries and eye injuries are all handled here. Employer and carrier documentation is completed the same visit. See occupational medicine for the full list, including drug and alcohol testing.
Can I get a DOT physical near Hazelwood?
Yes. We have a certified medical examiner on staff. We do DOT physicals as walk-in visits. They are usually finished well inside an hour, with the paperwork completed before you leave.
Do you do lab work in the same visit?
Most of it, yes. We have an on-site laboratory. So strep, flu, urinalysis, pregnancy and basic blood panels come back during the visit. They do not become a second trip.
Can you go to urgent care at night?
Until seven on weekdays. Express Urgent Care is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. So a problem that starts after a day shift can still be seen that evening, if you get here before closing. Chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of stroke and the rest of the emergency list go to 911 or an emergency room at any hour.
Is urgent care cheaper than the ER?
For the same complaint, yes. Urgent care costs a fraction of what an emergency department charges. For anything short of a true emergency, it is faster as well. We accept most major insurance plans and see self-pay patients. The front desk tells you where you stand before anything is done. If you want the cost in writing first, request a Good Faith Estimate.
