Jennings, MO residents have walk-in urgent care at Express Urgent Care on Woodson Road. It is about thirteen minutes west on Interstate 70 outside peak times. Digital X-ray and a laboratory are in the building. No appointment and no referral, Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Jennings sits on the eastern side of North County, along West Florissant and Jennings Station Road. It is closer to the river than to the airport. It is a small, densely settled city with a long history. It has comparatively few medical options inside its own boundaries. For most residents, same-day care already means a drive. The only real question is which direction. Going west to Woodson Road puts you at a walk-in clinic with X-ray and a laboratory in the building. That is not true of every option that happens to be nearer.
What we treat
Everything that needs attention today but is not an emergency. We treat colds and influenza, sore throat and strep, and ear and sinus infections. We treat bronchitis and persistent cough, fever, and stomach upset and dehydration. Urinary symptoms, rashes and allergic reactions, and asthma flare-ups are part of it too. When it comes to injuries, we see sprains and strains, suspected fractures, and dislocations. We see cuts needing closure, minor burns, abrasions, and animal bites and insect stings. Sports injuries and head injuries are part of the work as well. The clinic also provides physicals, vaccinations, confidential STI testing, occupational medicine and an on-site infusion suite.
Diagnostics in the same building
Here is why most urgent care visits turn into two appointments: the clinic cannot run the test. We can. Digital X-ray sits on site and is read during your visit. So a suspected fracture gets confirmed or ruled out before you leave. Splinting or bracing happens that same day. Strep, influenza, COVID-19, mononucleosis, urinalysis, pregnancy testing and blood panels run in our laboratory. Most results come back while you are still here. The rest arrive within a few days. Ultrasound and CT are there for the cases that need them.
How far is Express Urgent Care from Jennings?
From Jennings, Interstate 70 west to the Lambert exit is the straightforward route. It takes about thirteen minutes outside peak times. Jennings Station Road across to Lindbergh works as an alternative. It is often calmer in the late afternoon. There is free parking at the door. If the trip is the obstacle rather than the illness, a virtual care visit can start the process. It can tell you whether coming in is actually necessary.
When should you go to the emergency room instead of urgent care?
Express Urgent Care is an urgent care center, not an emergency department. The distinction matters. Call 911 or go to an emergency room for chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe or uncontrolled bleeding, a serious head injury with loss of consciousness or worsening symptoms, severe abdominal pain, a major burn, a severe allergic reaction, pregnancy complications, or any injury involving exposed bone. Everything short of that is faster at urgent care. The cost is a fraction of what an emergency department charges for the same complaint. See our post on urgent care versus the emergency room for where the line sits.
What happens at a walk-in urgent care visit?
Walk in without an appointment, then register at the front desk. Bring a photo ID and a list of the medicines you take. Bring your insurance card too, if you have one. If the patient is a child, a parent or guardian has to be there to sign. The order you arrive in sets your place, adjusted for how sick people are. So a chest complaint will move ahead of a form that needs signing. A clinician will take your history, examine you, and order whatever testing the problem calls for. Because the laboratory and the X-ray suite are in the building, the testing generally happens while you wait. It does not become a second appointment. At the end, you leave with a diagnosis where one can be made and a treatment plan. Any prescription goes straight to your pharmacy. You also get written instructions and a clear statement of what should bring you back. Our post on what to expect from an urgent care visit covers it in more detail.
Insurance, records and follow-up
We accept most major insurance plans. We see self-pay patients too. Bring whatever coverage you have. Before anything is done, the front desk will explain where you stand. You can also request a Good Faith Estimate if you would like the cost in writing beforehand. We are not trying to take the place of your regular doctor. If you have one, we send a summary of the visit. So your physician knows what happened and what was prescribed. Where you do not, we will tell you honestly whether this needs ongoing care. We will also help you find that care. Should the problem turn out to sit outside urgent care, we say so. We point you to the right place rather than treating around its edges. Language assistance is available at no charge. Every part of the clinic is wheelchair accessible.
Frequently asked questions
Is it worth driving further for an urgent care with X-ray?
Usually yes, if the problem might be a fracture. Otherwise you get seen somewhere, then sent somewhere else for imaging. Then you wait again for the read. We have digital X-ray on site, read during the visit.
Do you see patients without insurance?
Yes. You will be seen the same as anyone else. Costs depend on the visit. Ask at the desk, and we will tell you what we can before anything is done. You can also request a Good Faith Estimate in advance.
What illnesses do you actually treat?
Colds and flu, sore throat and strep, ear infections and sinus infections, among others. We also see bronchitis, fever, stomach upset, urinary symptoms, rashes and allergic reactions. See illnesses we treat for the fuller picture.
